Suspect charged with aggravated murder in abduction, car crash incident
Tiffin, Ohio — Jonathan J. Baker, the North Baltimore man involved in the abduction and car crash incident that took place on June 27 in the City of Tiffin, has now been formally charged with aggravated murder. The charges were brought against Baker on Tuesday through a warrant issued by Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court.
The incident originated in North Baltimore, Ohio, when an argument between Baker, 23, and the mother of the 7-month-old child escalated. Allegedly, Baker seized the infant during the dispute and fled the scene in his vehicle, setting off a desperate search and pursuit by law enforcement.
Authorities swiftly responded to the situation, with the North Baltimore Police issuing a “Be On the Lookout” (BOLO) alert to law enforcement agencies in the surrounding area.
The pursuit led officers from the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and the Tiffin Police Department to spot the suspect vehicle as it traveled through the City of Tiffin. However, Baker chose to evade capture, resulting in a high-speed chase that ended tragically when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a residence on S. Sandusky St.
Despite the efforts of responding officers, the infant succumbed to her injuries shortly after being rushed to Tiffin Mercy Hospital. Baker, critically injured in the crash, was transferred to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo where he remains for continued medical care.
