TFRD to host open house, honor fallen firefighter during EMS Week 2023
Tiffin, Ohio — Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division (TFRD) is hosting an open house at Fire Station No. 1, located at 53 S. Monroe St., on May 21 from 1-4 p.m. Members of the public are welcome to attend the event, which offers an opportunity to tour the fire station, take photos with the vehicles, and meet with the firefighter/paramedics.
In celebration of EMS Week 2023, TFRD will be teaching Hands Only CPR to interested attendees. The firefighters/EMTs can teach the lifesaving skill in about 10 minutes. Those who participate in the Hands Only CPR training will receive a gift certificate for an ice cream cone from Big Mike’s. Additionally, TFRD staff will provide blood pressure screenings and answer EMS-related questions, while handing out giveaways for kids.
TFRD will also dedicate EMS Week 2023 to honor Firefighter/Paramedic Sean Tyler, who served with the department from 2007 to 2019. Tyler was also a registered nurse in the emergency rooms at Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital and Mercy Health – Willard Hospital. Unfortunately, Tyler passed away in June 2022 due to occupational-related cancer.
Deputy Chief Mike Homan remembers Tyler fondly: “Sean was a gift from God, who gave him a skill set and personality second to none, who could bring a smile to a patient’s face during their worst moments. We hope that the public will help us honor Sean, who will be forever remembered for his dedication to his family, community, brother and sister firefighters and nurses, and his legacy during this time as EMS is Where Emergency Care Begins.”
