Tiffin Drive-In Theater set to kick off 2023 season
Tiffin, Ohio — The Tiffin Drive-In Theater, a historic Ohio landmark, will be opening its gates for its 74th year on Friday, March 31, with the premiere of “Dungeons & Dragons” by Paramount Pictures.
The drive-in theater, which first opened in June of 1949, has undergone significant renovations in the past two years, including the installation of two new drive-in screens in 2020 and the complete reconstruction of the concession stand and projection facility in 2021.
The newly built concession stand, named the Moonlite Diner, features a 50s retro-style design and serves a wide variety of quality foods and refreshments. Additionally, the facility houses the movie projection system, which consists of two state-of-the-art laser projectors, including the newest, brightest, sharpest, and most powerful laser cinema projector in the world, located in Screen 1.
“The movie presentation on our drive-in screens is the best in business,” said owner Michael Cole. “And before and during the show, we have a wide menu of quality foods and refreshments, served to you by a great crew of local kids whom we are very proud of.”
The theater has continued to improve its offerings for the 2023 season, including the addition of a new TurboChef pizza oven. This oven will allow the theater to offer made-to-order pizzas prepared onsite and bake them in just three minutes, a significant upgrade to their food selection.
“Speed is so important to us on a busy night,” Cole said. “The new combo of quality ingredients and the new oven really improves our pizza game.”
Plans are also underway for the addition of a children’s playground, set to be completed in the fall. Families will be able to bring their children and let them run off steam before the show at dusk.
The Tiffin Drive-In Theater features two screens, with double features playing on each screen every show. Sound is delivered through FM radio signals, which can be tuned in on a car or portable radio.
The theater will be open on Friday and Saturday only through April and part of May, with shows starting at 7:30 p.m. Beginning on Memorial Day weekend, the theater will be open Fridays through Tuesdays.
Additionally, the Moonlite Diner will feature a new daytime menu of melts and other diner favorites.
