Tiffin, Ohio — Seneca County has been ranked in the top 10% nationally in Site Selection magazine’s rankings for large, private economic development projects.

This year, the area placed 44th out of almost 600 micropolitans in the United States. Site Selection has been conducting these annual rankings since 1978 for states and cities and since 2004 for top micropolitans.

To qualify for these rankings, projects must have a capital investment of at least $1 million, create at least 20 new jobs or add at least 20,000 sq. ft. of new floor area. Seneca County’s Tiffin-Seneca micropolitan area has been ranked in the top 100 nationally for 12 consecutive years, including seven placements within the top 10. In 2022, Seneca County tied for 11th in the State of Ohio.

Tiffin Mayor Dawn Iannantuono expressed excitement over the news, thanking Site Selection Magazine for recognizing Tiffin’s strong economic growth. She added, “We’re proud to share this honor with Fostoria and all of Seneca County.”

Fostoria Mayor Eric Keckler also praised the ranking, saying it was an honor to receive national recognition once again.

Seneca County Board of Commissioners President Tony Paradiso added that he was elated to see Seneca County in the top 10% of all communities in the country for economic development projects.

Ohio, as a whole, placed first nationally for its capital investment activity in 2022, with the entire Northwest Ohio region posting strong numbers.

Findlay took the number one micropolitan slot, with Fremont, Bucyrus-Galion, Wapakoneta, Tiffin, Defiance, and Sandusky all finishing within the top 10% nationally. Overall, Ohio had more than double the amount of projects and investment as the next closest state, Indiana.

Fostoria Economic Development Corporation (FEDC) President Renee Smith said that the ranking was a testament to the partnerships and collaboration seen in Seneca County.

Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership (TSEP) President & CEO Aaron D. Montz expressed his excitement about the ranking, saying that it proved the area’s success was no fluke and that they were winning year after year because of their collaborative work for the greater good of their communities.
