City of Tiffin earns 2022 Tree City USA designation
Tiffin, Ohio — The City of Tiffin has been named a 2022 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, marking the 42nd consecutive year that the city has received this recognition for its commitment to effective urban forest management.
The Tree City USA title was awarded to Tiffin in recognition of its ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the quality of life in the community through a comprehensive tree management program. The program is guided by the Tree Commission and the municipal government.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry’s Urban Forestry Assistance Program provides guidance to help communities become qualified as a Tree City USA. The Regional Urban Forester recommends a community to the Arbor Day Foundation for this designation.
To achieve the title and honors, a community must meet four standards: a tree ordinance, an active tree commission or forestry department, a comprehensive urban forestry program supported by a minimum of two dollars per capita, and an annual Arbor Day proclamation and public observance.
Awards for Tree City USA are presented each year in the spring. Details about Tiffin’s Arbor Day celebration will be announced soon.
Tiffin Mayor Dawn Iannantuono expressed her pride in the city’s recognition, saying, “I’m so proud to see that Tiffin has been named Tree City USA for 42 years. Many thanks go out to the volunteers who are part of the Shade Tree Commission, as well as the staff at the Parks and Recreation and Public Works departments who provide their talents to maintain our urban forest.”
