Manama, Bahrain — The National Sports Summit, hosted by the General Sports Authority (GSA) of the Kingdom of Bahrain, began over the weekend with a series of training workshops led by Dr. Bonnie Tiell, Professor of Sports Management at Tiffin University.

The workshops are taking place from Feb. 4 to Feb. 9 at the Regency Intercontinental Hotel in Manama and will be attended by around 90 administrators and executives from national teams, Olympic federations, and sports properties in the kingdom, according to a press release from Tiffin University.

Through a partnership with the U.S. Sports Academy, where Tiell serves as a national faculty member, the workshops will cover topics such as developing sports governance and ethical conduct, strategic management principles, and advanced sports marketing. The sessions will be translated into Arabic and will be interrupted by two of the five prayer sessions that take place daily in the predominantly Islamic country.

In the press release, Tiell said, “I am honored and excited to share my knowledge of this industry with international audiences. One of the most rewarding aspects of being in this line of work is that it allows one to form connections with nearly every culture. Though the games played may vary across nations, the value of participating in sports and recreation is universal.”

The General Sports Authority of the Kingdom of Bahrain was established in 2021 by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Kahlifa with the goal of promoting and developing sports in the country. This week’s workshops are part of the GSA’s efforts to enhance the sports landscape in Bahrain and provide administrators and executives with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the industry.
