Sheriff’s office searching for suspect in Bettsville bank robbery

Bettsville, Ohio — The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a male suspect who fled the scene of a bank robbery Thursday morning at the Old Fort Bank in Bettsville.
The investigation is being conducted with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), according to a press release.
At approximately 10:57 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a call of an armed robbery in progress at the Old Fort Bank, 238 State Street, Bettsville.

Deputies discovered upon arrival that a white male, estimated to be 5’8″ to 5’10” with a medium build, had entered the bank, brandished a firearm, and demanded money. He was wearing a black hooded jacket, a blue stocking cap, and had a gray scarf tied over his face.
The suspect fled from the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, according to the release.
According to the sheriff’s office, K9 units and the OSHP air unit have been deployed in the area to assist with the search. The nearby school was put on lockdown as a precaution.
Residents are being asked to check their security cameras and to report anything suspicious to the sheriff’s office at 419-447-2323. Authorities are seeking any information that may lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspect.
