Recent Fostoria restaurant inspections through Feb. 8

Fostoria, Ohio — Let’s take a look at recent health inspections for Fostoria restaurants and food service facilities.

These inspections, conducted from Dec. 20, 2022 through Feb. 8, 2023, were performed by the Seneca County General Health District.

Restaurants with no violations in most recent inspection:

McDonald’s, 620 N. Countyline St., Fostoria. Inspected Jan. 4, 2023.

Little Caesars, 708 N. Union St., Fostoria. Inspected Jan. 24, 2023.

Fostoria Knights of Columbus, 445 W. Center St., Fostoria. Inspected Jan. 25, 2023.

Dean & Donna’s, 840 Buckley St., Fostoria. Inspected Feb. 8, 2023.

Restaurants with non-critical violations only:

Red’s Carryout Pizza, 381 Perry St., Fostoria. Inspected Dec. 28, 2022:

  1. Non-critical, repeat violation: TCS foods not properly thawed. Two bags of precooked chicken was thawing on counter. Proper thawing procedures must be followed to prevent bacteria growth.
  2. Non-critical: Improper storage of food items. Pizza boxes observed on the floor. Food and food storage items must be stored off the floor to prevent contamination of dirt and debris.
  3. Non-critical, repeat violation: Non-food contact surface(s) not cleaned at the required frequency. The microwave, true fridge and walk in cooler shelves need cleaned to prevent the growth of bacteria.
  4. Non-critical: Facility not maintained clean. The ceiling area above the oven needs cleaned. Dust and other debris could get into food if not cleaned.

Good Shepherd Home, 725 Columbus Avenue, Fostoria. Inspected Jan. 11, 2023:

  1. Non-critical: Cleanliness of nonfood-contact surfaces of equipment. Non-food contact surfaces of equipment are unclean. THE INSIDE OF THE ICE CREAM REACH-IN-FREEZER NEEDS CLEANED.

R Place, 324 S. Main St., Fostoria. Inspected Jan. 19, 2023:

  1. Non-critical: Food storage – preventing contamination from the premises. Improper storage of food items. Wings were not covered in walk in freezer. Please cover all food to protect it from other foods and to prevent dirt and dust to contaminate the food.

Marco’s Pizza, 301 N. Main St., Fostoria. Inspected Jan. 23, 2023:

  1. Non-critical: Floors, walls, and/or ceilings not smooth and easily cleanable. Floor tile are coming up in a few places in the facility. Please replace for cleaning purposes.

Dell’s, 224 S. Main St., Fostoria. Inspected Jan. 30, 2023:

  1. Non-critical, repeat violation: Non-food contact surface(s) not cleaned at the required frequency. Equipment out front in the food prep area needs cleaned. Clean equipment limits the growth of bacteria that could spread. Clean around the perp sink area and stand up freezer.

KemoSabes Roadhouse Grill, 820 Sandusky St., Fostoria. Inspected Feb. 1, 2023:

  1. Non-critical: Equipment compartments – drainage. Equipment compartment not designed to facilitate complete draining. The walk in freezer had a build up of ice in it. The unit needs fixed to prevent contamination of food and for safety reasons.
  2. Non-critical: Cutting blocks or boards cannot be effectively cleaned and sanitized. The cutting board on the prep cooler needs turned over. The grooves in it do not allow for proper cleaning. Bacteria growth can occur within the grooves.
  3. Non-critical: Physical facilities not maintained in good repair. The hand wash sink hot water handle needs fixed. The faucet wont shut off all the way.

Restaurants with at least one critical violation:

American Table Family Restaurant, 603 Plaza Dr., Fostoria. Inspected Dec. 21, 2022:

  1. Critical, corrected during inspection: Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging, and segregation. Raw eggs were observed over carrots. Proper storage of food needs to be done to prevent the raw eggs contaminating the carrots in case one of them should break.
  2. Non-critical, corrected during inspection: No towels or drying device at the handwashing sink(s). Paper towels were not present at one of the hand wash stations, the other station did have them. All hand wash stations must have drying provisions.
  3. Non-critical, repeat violation: Non-food contact surface(s) not cleaned at the required frequency. Food debris and dirt was observed on top of the dishwasher, in the True Cooler and True Freezer. These pieces of equipment need to be cleaned to reduce the growth of bacteria.

Mi Tequilas, 1659 Countyline St., Fostoria. Inspected Dec. 21, 2022:

  1. Critical, repeat violation, corrected during inspection: Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked. Cooked Chicken and Beef was not date marked. This needs to be date marked to help prevent bacteria growth.
  2. Non-critical, repeat violation: Facility does not have an employee with manager certification in food protection. The facility needs a level 2 certified person for the facility. The training educates the person on proper food safety and foodborne illnesses.
  3. Non-critical: Poisonous or toxic chemicals did not have manufacturers label. A spray bottle was not labeled. Identify bottles so employees know to use the proper cleaning product and it doesn’t contaminate food.
  4. Non-critical, repeat violation, corrected during inspection: TCS foods not properly thawed. Ground beef was observed thawing in the sink. Use approved thawing methods to reduce the growth of bacteria.
  5. Non-critical: Food was not covered in the walk in freezer and walk in cooler.. Food shall be covered to help protect it from contamination from other foods.
  6. Non-critical, repeat violation: Non-food contact surface(s) not cleaned at the required frequency. All equipment in the kitchen needs cleaned to prevent bacteria growth. Food debris was observed.

Fostoria Community Hospital, 501 Van St., Fostoria. Inspected Jan. 4, 2023:

  1. Critical, corrected during inspection: TCS foods not being hot held at the proper temperature. IN THE HOT HOLDING CABINET, THE INTERNAL TEMPERATURES OF GRILLED CHICKEN WAS 125 DEGREES F AND CHEESEBURGER ON A BUN WAS 130 DEGREES F. TO PREVENT BACTERIAL GROWTH, HOT HOLDING NEEDS TO BE MAINTAINED AT 135 DEGREES F OR HIGHER. THE ITEMS WERE REMOVED.

Java’s Enchanted Bean, 204 S. Main St., Fostoria. Inspected Jan. 17, 2023:

  1. Critical: Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging, and segregation. IN THE REACH-IN-COOLER, RAW EGGS WERE STORED ABOVE READY-TO-EAT FOODS. TO PREVENT CROSS-CONTAMINATION, THE EGGS NEED TO BE BELOW COOKED, READY-TO-EAT FOODS.

American Legion Post 73, 300 N. Main St., Fostoria. Inspected Feb. 3, 2023:

  1. Critical, corrected during inspection: TCS foods not being hot held at the proper temperature. Food in the steam table was 95 degrees. Hot holding food must be held at 135 degrees or more. If steam table temperature is turned downed monitor food temp to ensure it does not fall below 135. Ensure that all hot holding foods are held at 135 degrees or higher.
  2. Non-critical: Hot and cold holding equipment thermometer was missing, located incorrectly, or not easily readable. Ensure that all RIC and RIF have a thermometer located near the warmest part of the unit. Ensure that all RIC and RIF have a thermometer located near the warmest part of the unit.

Whistle Stop Deli, 210 E. Lytle St., Fostoria. Inspected Feb. 8, 2023:

  1. Critical, corrected during inspection: TCS foods not being cold held at the proper temperature. THE BERG REACH-IN-COOLER IN THE PREP AREA HAD AN AIR TEMPERATURE OF 50 DEGREES F. THE INTERNAL TEMPERATURE OF HOT DOGS WERE 48 DEGREES F AND DICED CHICKEN WAS 46 DEGREES F. TO PREVENT BACTERIAL GROWTH, COLD HOLDING OF TCS FOODS NEEDS TO BE MAINTAINED AT 41 DEGREES F OR LOWER. THE TCS FOOD WAS BEING REMOVED FROM THE COOLER. IF THE COOLER CANNOT BE REPAIRED, THEN A NEW ONE IS GOING TO BE BOUGHT.
