Hit-and-run suspect arrested after police pursuit in Findlay

Findlay, Ohio — On Saturday at around 11:44 p.m., authorities were alerted about a vehicle hitting multiple parked cars at the Brew-U located at 316 N. Main St. in Findlay. Upon arrival, it was reported that the suspect vehicle had already fled the scene.

An officer spotted the Chevy Silverado 1500 suspected of the hit-and-run incident driving northbound on N. Main St. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect vehicle evaded the officer and a pursuit ensued, according to a press release from the Findlay Police Department.

The pursuit continued for approximately 7.2 miles and lasted for six minutes. The Chevy Silverado 1500 drove northbound on N. Main St. to CR 99 and proceeded westbound before turning northbound onto I-75 North. The suspect vehicle then exited at SR 613 and continued eastbound on SR 613. The suspect vehicle turned into the drive at 11681 SR 613 and stopped, according to the release.

The driver, identified as 26-year-old Sonny T. Harper, was taken into custody for felony fleeing and eluding and operating a vehicle while under the influence. Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Findlay Post also assisted in the pursuit.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Harper was incarcerated at the Hancock County Justice Center on his charges.
