Erie County, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle injury crash that occurred Monday at approximately 1:44 p.m. on Mason Road near the intersection of Magill Road in Groton Township, Erie County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 27-year-old Dylan J. Lucal, of Norwalk, was operating a 2006 Saturn VUE when the crash occurred. Lucal sustained serious injuries and was transported to Firelands Hospital in Sandusky. The front-seat passenger, 27-year-old Paige N. Stark, of Norwalk, also sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Saint Vincent Hospital in Toledo.

Troopers say Lucal’s vehicle was traveling westbound on Mason Road when it drove off the right side of the roadway, struck a mailbox, ditch, railroad crossing post, sign, and two wooden poles. The vehicle came to a stop in a field on the north side of the roadway. An Ohio Edison wire was down across Mason Road. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Alcohol and/or drug use is believed to be a factor in the crash, according to OSHP. The incident remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Groton Township Fire/EMS, Ohio Edison, Norfolk Southern, and Sandusky Towing.
