Man killed in Sandusky County motorcycle crash: OSHP

Woodville Township, Ohio — A Monroeville man was killed in a motorcycle crash that occurred Wednesday evening in Sandusky County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on U.S. 20 at Township Road 40, just east of the village of Woodville, at approximately 6:40 p.m.

38-year-old Ryan L. Rang, of Monroeville, was operating a 2007 black Harley Davidson Police Road King eastbound on U.S. 20 in the right lane.

55-year-old Erika M. Wellons, of Woodville, was driving a 2012 maroon Honda Odyssey, also eastbound on U.S. 20 in the right lane, in front of Rang.

According to OSHP, Wellons slowed down to turn right onto Township Road 40. Rang was unable to stop with assured clear distance and struck the rear of Wellons’ vehicle.

Rang’s motorcycle overturned and he was ejected. He was wearing a helmet and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

Wellons was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured as a result of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation, and it is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drug usage were contributing factors in the crash, according to OSHP.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Sandusky County Lifesquads #14 and #19, Woodville Township Fire Department, Lucas County Coroner’s Office, and Ash’s Automotive.
