Tiffin, Ohio — Candidates are currently being sought to fill two vacancies on the Seneca County Board of Health, which is the governing entity for the Seneca County General Health District.
One vacancy is for an unexpired term representing the city of Fostoria. The term runs through December 2024. This appointment will be made by the Fostoria Mayor, with the approval of Fostoria City Council.
The other vacancy is for an unexpired term that runs through March 2025. This Board of Health will make a temporary appointment to fill this vacancy until March 2023, when the Health District Advisory Council will officially fill the position for the remainder of the unexpired term. To attain a geographical balance of Board members from across the county, candidates that reside in Adams, Bloom, Clinton, Eden, Pleasant, or Scipio townships, or in Green Springs, Republic, or Bloomville are being sought.
Information about the roles and responsibilities of Board of Health members can be found on the Health District website. Board of Health members are expected to be strong public health advocates, supporting the wide variety of foundational public health services provided by Health District staff.
Foundational capabilities include emergency preparedness and response, community partnership development, equity, communications, assessment and surveillance, among others.
Foundational areas include communicable disease control (of COVID-19 and many other infectious diseases that can easily spread to cause outbreaks and epidemics); chronic disease and injury prevention (e.g., naloxone distribution to prevent overdose deaths, child car seat safety to prevent motor vehicle injuries and deaths); environmental public health (e.g., inspections of many different types of facilities to prevent illnesses); maternal, child, and family health (e.g., immunizations and WIC); and access to and linkages with clinical care (e.g., helping connect people to the health care services they need).
The Board of Health meets for regular meetings every fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.
Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest explaining why they would like to serve on the Board of Health and a resume outlining their qualifications to the Seneca County Board of Health, Personnel Committee, 92 E Perry St, Tiffin, OH 44883, by August 12, 2022.
