Democrats select Cheyane Thacker to fill Tiffin City Council vacancy
Tiffin, Ohio — The Seneca County Democratic Central Committee has selected Cheyane Thacker to fulfill the remainder of former At-Large Councilmember Ben Gillig’s unexpired term. Thacker is to be sworn into office at the next scheduled Tiffin City Council meeting.
“Cheyane emerged as the successful candidate from a strong field of eight, being selected on the second ballot unanimously. The Democratic Party looks forward to the continued involvement by all of the candidates as the 2023 municipal election season approaches,” said Central Committee Chair Jim Fruth.
Thacker, 27, grew up in Tiffin and attended Columbian High School. She currently works as a legal assistant at local law firm Lange Gordon Rannigan & Claus LLC, and had previously worked at various businesses in downtown Tiffin. Thacker unsuccessfully ran for an at-large council seat in 2021.
Thacker is on the Ritz Players Board and is a founding member of Seneca Proud, an organization providing support, education, and representation to the local LGBTQ community. She currently serves on the Ritz Theatre Marketing Committee and on the City of Tiffin Planning Commission.
“I want to make everyone proud and I’m excited for this opportunity to be involved and serve the citizens of the city of Tiffin,” Thacker said.
Because the term has more than two years remaining, Thacker said she intends to run for office again in the 2023 municipal election.
