Where to celebrate Juneteenth 2022 in Tiffin

Tiffin, Ohio — There are multiple events taking place this weekend in Tiffin to celebrate Juneteenth.

Juneteenth is a holiday celebrating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it is now celebrated annually on June 19 throughout the country.

The day was recognized as a federal holiday on June 17, 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law.

Here’s where you can celebrate in Tiffin this weekend:

  • Flag Raising
    Friday, June 17, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.
    Beeghly Library, Heidelberg University campus
    This will include the singing of “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” to commence the holiday.
  • Matinee Movie
    Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
    Old Trinity Episcopal Church
    Sit back and relax while watching a movie. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
  • Juneteenth Picnic
    Sunday, June 19, 2022 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
    Frost-Kalnow Amphitheater East Green
    Celebrate Juneteenth with food (please bring), music, readings, and face paintings on the East Green lawn.
