Ohio EPA cancels June 27 Sunny Farms Landfill air permit virtual meeting

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has cancelled a virtual public meeting that was scheduled for June 27 regarding the proposed renewal of the air pollution operating permit for Sunny Farms Landfill in Seneca County.

According to a press release from the agency, due to significant local public interest in the facility, the virtual meeting will be rescheduled as an in-person meeting in the coming months. The public will be notified when a date and location for the in-person meeting has been determined.

If approved, the air permit renewal would replace the existing operating air permit and would be updated to include a requirement to install sulfur controls (as required by previous director’s findings and orders and the recently issued installation permit). Installation of the sulfur controls will significantly decrease emissions from the landfill.

Note that if proposed renewal air permit is approved, it would not allow the landfill to expand. Sunny Farms has indicated the company has interest in expanding the landfill; however, any consideration of future expansion will be evaluated through one or more separate permit actions. The landfill is located at 21500 West County Road 18, Fostoria.

Ohio EPA will continue to accept public comments on the draft air permit renewal. Written comments may be sent to Alyse Wineland, Division of Air Pollution Control, Ohio EPA Northwest District Office, 347 North Dunbridge Road, Bowling Green, OH 43402, or
