Tiffin fire chief honors firefighters with department awards
Tiffin, Ohio — During a Tiffin City Council meeting Monday, Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz proclaimed May 4, 2022 as International Firefighter’s Day in the City of Tiffin.
International Firefighters’ Day is observed each year on May 4th to honor and remember past firefighters who have lost their lives while serving their communities, to express gratitude to those that have served in this line of work, and to show support and appreciation for those who presently serve.
In the proclamation, Montz recognized that firefighters follow a long line of tradition and honor that inspires them to help colleagues, neighbors and strangers, and at a moment’s notice, firefighters are quick to respond to uncertain situations to mitigate danger and combat the threat of destructive fire in order to protect individuals, families, and the economic being of our community.

In his message, the mayor encouraged citizens to show support and appreciation to our City, County, and State firefighters who protect our lives and property so diligently throughout the year, and remember past firefighters who dedicated their lives to preserve our safety.
During the meeting, Fire Chief Rob Chappell took the opportunity to recognize members of the department with awards:
- Firefighter/Paramedic Scott Brooks, Firefighter of the Year.
- Firefighter/Paramedic Keith Johnson, Paramedic of the Year.
- Firefighter/Paramedic Isaac Heiser, Meritorious Service Award.
“Each of these awards are special. As the Chief, I get to present them, but these awards are not picked by me – these nominations are made by their peers, and I think that carries an extra weight. Thank you all for your service to the community,” Chappell said.
