Tiffin, Ohio — A Bellevue man was pronounced dead after a single vehicle fatal crash early Monday morning, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers are investigating the crash, which occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. on County Road 34, west of Township Road 78 in Thompson Township, Seneca County.
41-year-old Brian Sampsel, of Bellevue, was driving a 2003 Dodge Caravan westbound on County Road 34 near Township Road 78.
22-year-old Maxwell Alle, of Bellevue, was the right front passenger in the vehicle. 25-year-old Evan Sampsel, of Bellevue, was seated in the middle seat of the second row.
Troopers say Brian Sampsel drove off the right side of the road and began to lose control. He re-entered the roadway, overcorrected, and again drove off the right side of the roadway.
The vehicle struck a tree and overturned several times before ejecting Brian Sampsel.
Brian Sampsel was not wearing a seatbelt, according to troopers, and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.
Evan Sampsel was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.
Maxwell Alle was wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries from the crash.
Evan Sampsel and Maxwell Alle were transported to Fisher Titus Medical Center by North Central EMS and were later released.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, alcohol consumption is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Green Springs Volunteer Fire Department, North Central EMS, and John’s Welding and Towing.
