Tiffin, Ohio — Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz on Monday congratulated AJ’s Heavenly Pizza on 40 years of business, as the pizzeria hosts a “Customer/Employee Appreciation Day” in which all sales for the day will be given to workers.

“I stopped by AJ’s Heavenly Pizza today to congratulate owner John Hill on 40 extremely successful years in business at the Tiffin location,” Montz said in a Facebook post. “John has fired up the ovens and called in extra help today as he plans to donate ALL of the day’s sales back to the employees as a thank you for their service and commitment.”

The Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors held a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 am to kick-off the day.

Following the ribbon cutting, the store began a day to celebrate the many employees that have weathered the COVID-19 pandemic and helped Heavenly Pizza, a community staple over the years.

Owner John Hill will donate the entire day of sales (11:00 am to 10:00 pm), including tips, back to all the employees of Heavenly Pizza.

Heavenly Pizza will be raffling off items purchased from local businesses for those who place orders today. Those who attended the ribbon cutting also had the opportunity to walk away with a slice (or two) of pizza.

At the age of 21, John and his business partner – a childhood friend who also worked in pizza shops and, like John, a born-again Christian – came from Michigan and set out to open a store in Galion.

After being turned down in Galion, the pair took a wrong turn on their way to Perrysburg and found the perfect location in Tiffin.

After marrying, John and his wife moved to Oklahoma, where they lived for nine years and started two Heavenly Pizza locations.

Missing the small-town life, John and his family moved back to Tiffin.

Today, Heavenly Pizza is a strong family business, with John’s four children, their spouses, and his six grandchildren lending a hand.
