Tiffin University joins consortium to improve student transitions from community college

Tiffin, Ohio — Tiffin University is one of 14 independent colleges and universities participating in the new Ohio Consortium for Transfer Pathways to the Liberal Arts. This grant-funded effort is to improve the transition process for students who transfer from a community college to a private four-year institution.

Established by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) and the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC), the project will provide transfer pathways to bachelor’s degrees in English, psychology and biology for community college students. The consortium consists of 14 four-year colleges and universities and 10 community colleges throughout the state of Ohio.

Funded by a grant from the Teagle Foundation and the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, the consortium will address challenges often faced by community college students transferring to four-year institutions, including the loss of credits during the transfer process, which can lengthen the time necessary to earn a degree.

Curricular templates for each of the three majors will alleviate credit loss and reduce the confusion and anxiety surrounding many transfer decisions so students can focus on their goal of graduating with a bachelor’s degree.
