Buck Township, Ohio — Police in Hardin County are investigating the murder of a Fostoria man.

According to the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call Wednesday around 7 p.m. from a passerby regarding a body in the middle of the road.

When deputies arrived, 29-year-old Robert B. Mays, Jr., of Fostoria, was found dead on Township Road 265 near State Route 32 in Buck Township after being shot multiple times.

Investigators from the sheriff’s office, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), and the Hardin County Coroner’s Office are following all potential leads as they are received.

The Hardin County Prosecutor’s Office is also assisting with the investigation, and an autopsy is being performed by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

According to Hardin County authorities, Mays Jr. has no apparent connection to the area.

“The Sheriff’s Office does not believe that any local residents have reason to be concerned with a subject or subjects being at large in the area, which would present a concern for their safety,” the sheriff’s office wrote online.

Anyone who may have information of any nature concerning this case should contact the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office at (419) 673-1268 or call the Sheriff’s Tip Line at (419) 675-8475.
