Tiffin, Ohio — A former publisher of the Tiffin Advertiser-Tribune pleaded not guilty to a felony theft charge during an arraignment hearing Wednesday in Seneca County Common Pleas Court.

55-year-old Christopher A. Dixon, of Tiffin, was charged in April with aggravated theft, a third-degree felony.

Dixon was indicted on Apr. 21 and was booked into the Seneca County Jail, originally on a $500,000 bond with no 10% surety bond payment allowed.

On Wednesday, following Dixon’s not guilty plea, Judge Steve C. Shuff modified Dixon’s bond to $200,000 with a 10% surety bond payment allowed.

Dixon was bonded out of jail the same day.

According to court documents, between 2011 and 2019, Dixon allegedly falsified reimbursement forms to steal between $150,000 and $750,000 from West Virginia-based Ogden Newspapers Inc., the parent company of the A-T.

Dixon’s indictment states the penalty for an aggravated theft charge, if convicted, carries a maximum sentence of 36 months, and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

A pre-trial hearing in the case is scheduled for July 6 at 2 p.m.
