Tiffin, Ohio — Tiffin City Schools has hired a new superintendent, the board of education announced Wednesday.

The Tiffin City Board of Education worked with the Ohio School Board Association to find a pool of candidates for the position.

During Tuesday evening’s board meeting, Van McWreath was offered the position. McWreath currently serves as principal of Harvey High School in Painesville, Ohio.

McWreath holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and a master’s degree in education administration.

Board member Dr. Meagan McBride, who headed up the superintendent search committee, said McWreath’s start date will be agreed upon as part of the contract process and will be shared at a later date.

“We look forward to holding an engagement for community members to get to know him and welcome him to the community (and will share these details as they are solidified). More than anything, I look forward to him getting to know our staff, community members, learning the culture of the district, and rolling up his sleeves and getting to work,” McBride said.

McBride thanked the district’s interim superintendent, James Grubbs, for leading the district through a difficult year with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have been incredibly fortunate to have the direction and leadership of our Interim Superintendent, Mr. Grubbs, through this difficult year and I am thankful for his leadership and guidance as we have navigated this time,” she said.

McBride also gave a shout out to community members who helped with the search process, attended focus groups, and gave support throughout the process.

“Thank you to each of you for what you do that makes Tiffin City Schools, Tiffin, and Seneca County a truly stellar community.”
