Tiffin, Ohio — A Tiffin business owner is kicking off a project to assist Seneca County’s mentoring program.

Susan Wilkinson – owner of Simply Susan’s at 70 S. Washington St. – is a member of the Seneca Mentoring Youth Links Foundation board.

She is offering Mr. Rogers-themed apparel and other items starting on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 1. She is donating $5 from every item sold to support SMYL.

SMYL – a mentoring program provided by the Seneca County Family & Children First Council – has impacted the lives of 500 youth through traditional one-to-one mentoring, School Pals programming and the Impact after-school program at A Little Faith Ministries.

Matt Coleman, SMYL’s mentor coordinator, expressed appreciation for Simply Susan’s and all who choose to shop local and support the youth of the community who have been affected in so many ways this year.

In a year full of surprises and uncertainty, he said, it is comforting to know that there are local businesses and organizations that are willing to work together, remain positive and think of others.

The apparel will have sayings focused on good things happening and making the most of the beautiful day.

Items can be purchased at Jam’s Monthly Markets’ holiday open house 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 at 147 Madison St., Tiffin.

They also may be purchased at Simply Susan’s, which is open every day until Christmas. Holiday hours are noon-4 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Wilkinson is willing to meet anyone at the store outside of regular hours.

People may call (419) 443-0882 to make an appointment. Or, they may visit www.simplysusansboutique.com to order anytime.

For the Giving Tuesday fundraiser, T-shirts are $25, baseball shirts are $35, and sweatshirts are $40. There is an additional cost for larger sizes.

Coleman reflected on a quote by Rogers: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”

“Thank you Simply Susan’s for helping during a difficult year, and thank you all for helping support our local businesses and youth,” Coleman said.

Anyone looking to become a helper by mentoring a local youth can contact Coleman at mcoleman@ncoesc.org to learn more.

Simply Susan’s is located in downtown Tiffin and offers fine chocolates and candy, apparel, accessories, Luca & Dani jewelry, on-the-spot engraving, home décor, gifts and more.
