Community joins together to help Tiffin pizza shop owner hospitalized after serious accident
Tiffin, Ohio — The Tiffin community is coming together to help a local pizza shop owner after he was hospitalized following a serious accident earlier this month.
Jerry Elchert, who has owned Napoli Pizza for over 30 years, was flown via Life Flight to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo after being involved in a serious accident on Sunday, Nov. 8.
Elchert’s friends and family started an online fundraiser through GoFundMe to help with medical expenses.
“While he is making progress, he has a long road to recovery. Jerry is a humble man who would do anything for anyone he came across,” fundraiser organizer Challie Briihl wrote.
Briihl said in a Saturday update that Elchert is still in the hospital requiring oxygen, but his condition is improving daily.
“Once able, he will be moved to a rehabilitation center,” Briihl wrote.
As of Saturday afternoon, the GoFundMe page has raised over $20,000 to assist with Elchert’s medical expenses.
