Tiffin University temporarily drops ACT, SAT requirement for Fall 2021 class

Tiffin, Ohio — In mid-March, as schools across the country began to close, aspiring college students received news that the ACT and SAT tests were being canceled due to the coronavirus.

To accommodate students, Tiffin University has adjusted its admissions standards by temporarily dropping the ACT and SAT requirement for fall 2021 admissions. The admission requirement will be based on a student’s cumulative high school GPA.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has brought extraordinary obstacles and disruptions for everyone, including those pursuing their academic aspirations,” said Dr. Amy Wood, Vice President for Enrollment Management. “Under these unique circumstances, it is important that we provide flexibility to students.”

Removing the standardized test score requirement for admissions is a win-win for both the student and university. “Students will have one less thing to worry about when applying for college during the pandemic,” said Wood.

“There is a great deal of uncertainty of how long COVID-19 will last. Therefore, changing our admissions standards to be based on a student’s cumulative high school GPA allows them to continue to move through the college process with ease and peace of mind.”

Although not required, TU will use standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) for math and English placement. If a student does not have a standardized test score, they will be given the Accuplacer test for placement purposes.

Tiffin University’s application is user-friendly and can be completed online. Students must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.25 for all academic coursework.
