Tiffin, Ohio — Individuals who have been in close proximity to Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz within the past several days are being notified after the mayor tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.
Montz announced his positive test result on Twitter Wednesday afternoon. The mayor was tested early Wednesday at Tiffin Mercy Hospital and got his result just hours later.
Tiffin City Administrator Dale Thornton told TiffinOhio.net that Montz will remain under quarantine for at least the next 10 days, during which time he will continue to monitor his symptoms.
“Those with whom he has had contact since Saturday evening while he was asymptomatic are being contacted,” Thornton said. “Very few employees have been in close proximity to the mayor since Saturday, but the few who did have been notified.”
Thornton said those employees have also been advised to quarantine and be tested should they become symptomatic, but as long as they are asymptomatic, they remain working according to guidance received from local health officials.
The mayor will continue to work from home during the period of his quarantine, and he remains available to his staff and members of City Council via phone or email if needed.
