Seneca County child dies after being shot in chest

Adams Township, Seneca County, Ohio — A 4-year-old has died after being accidentally shot Wednesday morning.

The shooting reportedly occurred around 8:55 a.m. in Adams Township, just outside of Republic.

A 911 call was made from a resident at 5605 N. TR 175 who reported the child with a gunshot wound to the chest. The caller told the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office that the address where the incident occurred was 5508 N. TR 175.

North Central EMS, Green Springs Fire, Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, and Life Flight were dispatched.

The child was transported to Tiffin Mercy Hospital by North Central EMS, where he was confirmed by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office to have died Wednesday evening.

The sheriff’s office said in a press release that the incident appears to be accidental and that “there are no signs of foul play at this time.”

No charges have been filed as a result of the incident.
