A Tiffin-based author and illustrator has published her first children’s book geared towards kids aged 18-months-old to 11-years-old.
Marie Lucius said “The Adventures of Tucker & Tilly” is based off real-life events with her dogs: Tucker, a chocolate Labrador retriever, and Tilly, a chocolate toy poodle.
“I got the idea to write the Adventures of Tucker and Tilly several years back when I saw my cousins running around the yard playing [with] Tucker and Tilly,” Lucius said. “I starte dto think, ‘Wow! How cute would it be to make a book about Tucker and Tilly?’ So I decided to mention this idea to a few supportive family members and friends after doodling and sketching some characters.”
Lucius says her family members and friends encouraged her to proceed with the book and make her dream happen.
“At this time I looked at this idea as a far away dream. So life happened and my story line and sketches were left sitting in a sketch pad on my desk. Years later I was trying to lay my 2 year old daughter down to bed and decided to share with her the written story line of the Adventures of Tucker and Tilly. She was in love,” Lucius said.
“Often she would ask me to tell her the Tucker Tilly story without ever seeing the pictures. 2 years has passed and I felt a push to pick up the pencil and get back to work. I set a timeline to finish my book. I had no clue what I was doing or what steps were required to publish.”
Lucius said after watching many videos and doing research about the publication of books, she finished the book over a three month period.
“I had much sense of accomplishment and couldn’t believe I finally finished this project and made my dream come true,” Lucius said. “I wrote and illustrated my first book!”
Lucius says she has had the pleasure of speaking to several classes at area schools and would enjoy any opportunities to share her story in the future.
