Mayor Montz honors late Tiffin E League Baseball coaches: Their impact ‘will be felt for generations’

Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz earlier this week declared Aug. 31 as “Steve Allbaugh and Dan Waters Day” to honor the late E League Baseball coaches.

The mayor also joined in naming the two baseball diamonds at Oakley Park after the pair.

“Sadly, both Steve and Dan recently passed away, leaving a legacy of coaching, leadership, and volunteer work in their wake,” Montz said. “These two gentlemen will be greatly missed, however, their mentorship and impact will be felt for generations throughout the Tiffin community.”

The proclamation reads as follows:

“WHEREAS, Tiffin E League Baseball has served generations of youth in Tiffin and Seneca County, teaching them not only fundamentals of America’s pastime, but the values of sportsmanship, dedication, and community and;

“WHEREAS, The operation of Tiffin E League Baseball, and the Cal Ripken League and Babe Ruth Baseball, have required untold thousands of hours of volunteer work from commissioners and coaches alike to serve the youth of our community; and

“WHEREAS, Coach Steve Allbaugh and Coach Dan Waters each dedicated over 30 years of service to the children of Tiffin and Seneca County, introducing generations of Tiffin and Seneca County youth to the great game of baseball and;

“WHEREAS, Numerous studies have shown that having positive, caring adult role models in an integral building block of development for healthy, caring and responsible children and;

“WHEREAS, Coach Allbaugh and Coach Waters served in this capacity for the youth of Tiffin and Seneca County as positive, caring role models and for helping to instill the values of hard work, dedication, and volunteerism upon the hundreds of players they helped to coach, and the lessons they taught and example they provided that will continue to be handed down for generations to come; and

“THEREFORE, Be it resolved that on this 31st day of August, 2020, that I, Aaron D. Montz, Mayor of the City of Tiffin, join with Tiffin Youth baseball in the dedication of Steve Allbaugh Field and Dan Waters Field at Oakley Park, and proclaim this day as Coach Steve Allbaugh and Coach Dan Waters Day in the City of Tiffin.”
