Seneca County Sheriff’s Office warns of scam targeting area residents
TIFFIN — The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a scam that is targeting area residents.
The sheriff’s office said Saturday evening that they have received multiple calls throughout the day informing them of an individual using the sheriff’s office phone number, (419) 447-3456.
The caller attempts to scam people into sending money, posing as “Lieutenant David Smith.”
According to the sheriff’s office, the scammer tells people they owe money for missing a jury trial.
“If you receive a phone call like this, please call your local law enforcement,” the sheriff’s office said. “Law enforcement would NEVER call and collect money for anything.”
