President Donald Trump lashed out Monday at the Cleveland Indians and Washington Redskins on Twitter for considering changes to their respective team names, accusing the teams of “trying to be politically correct.”

“They name teams out of STRENGTH, not weakness, but now the Washington Redskins & Cleveland Indians, two fabled sports franchises, look like they are going to be changing their names in order to be politically correct,” Trump tweeted Monday afternoon.

“Indians, like Elizabeth Warren, must be very angry right now!” he added.

The Cleveland Indians said Friday that they will review their long-debated nickname, which has been in place since 1915.

“We are committed to making a positive impact in our community and embrace our responsibility to advance social justice and equality,” the team said in a statement that came hours after the NFL’s Washington Redskins announced a similar move. “Our organization fully recognizes our team name is among the most visible ways in which we connect with the community.”

Trump’s tweet targeting the Redskins and Indians was his second racially charged, sports-related tweet of the day, who earlier Monday called out NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, the racing company’s only Black driver, accusing him of perpetrating a “HOAX” involving a noose found in his garage last month at Talladega Superspeedway.

“Has @BubbaWallace apologized to all of those great NASCAR drivers & officials who came to his aid, stood by his side, & were willing to sacrifice everything for him, only to find out that the whole thing was just another HOAX?” Trump tweeted Monday morning.

“That & Flag decision has caused lowest ratings EVER!” Trump added.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany was asked at a press briefing earlier Monday about the president’s opinion on the decisions, but she said she hadn’t spoken with him about the developments.
