NEW RIEGEL, Ohio — Thousands of dollars have been raised through an online GoFundMe fundraiser to support the family of a New Riegel girl recently diagnosed with a form of leukemia.

6-year-old Myla Brickner’s parents, Katie and Andrew Brickner, noticed bumps on her neck on a Saturday afternoon, prompting an Urgent Care visit around noon the following day, according to Jill Gosche, who organized the fundraiser.

Brickner underwent blood work in the emergency room, and as she and Katie were leaving, Katie received a phone call before they got home telling her to get Myla to a children’s hospital as soon as possible.

Myla was admitted to Columbus Children’s Hospital and was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which affects certain cells in the immune system.

“Myla has been incredibly brave and the doctors and nurses absolutely love her,” Gosche wrote on the GoFundMe fundraiser page.

“The family is overwhelmed as everything progressed so quickly. Family members are helping out with Myla’s 14-year-old sister, 10-month-old brother, two cats and a dog at home.”

Less than 24 hours after the fundraiser was launched on GoFundMe, it has raised over $6,000 to support the Brickner family, surpassing its initial goal of $2,500 and the secondary goal of $5,000.
