Gov. DeWine orders flags at half-staff for U.S. Marine from Ohio killed in training exercise
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine on Sunday ordered that all U.S. and Ohio flags be flown at half-staff for U.S. Marine Sgt. Wolfgang Kyle Weninger, an Ohio native who died Tuesday in a training jump accident.
In honor of the life and service of Sgt. Wolfgang Kyle Weninger, 28, Gov. DeWine has ordered that all United States and Ohio flags be flown at half-staff on all public buildings and grounds throughout Geauga County — where Weninger grew up — and at the Ohio Statehouse, Vern Riffe Center, and Rhodes Tower in Columbus, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
Flags shall remain lowered until sunset on the day of his funeral.
Sgt. Weninger, after five years in the Marines, was chosen and successfully completed training for the Marine Forces Special Operations Command. He was training to become a paratrooper at the Army’s Fort Benning facility in Georgia when he was killed.
All other public buildings and grounds throughout the state may fly United States and Ohio flags at half-staff at their discretion for the same time period.
