Tiffin University discontinues equestrian, swim & dive programs
Tiffin University has discontinued its equestrian and men’s and women’s swim and dive programs immediately, Athletic Director Lonny Allen announced Tuesday.
“These are trying times for many institutions and Tiffin University is not immune to these times,” Allen said. “President Schumacher and I have looked at the athletic department as a whole. While this is a difficult decision to make, we feel it is appropriate for the health of the department and University.”
Scholarships for current equestrian and swim and dive student-athletes will be honored for the duration of their academic careers. Student-athletes who would like to join another institution’s roster will be released without penalty and are free to transfer immediately.
The equestrian program was established in 2007, featuring Hunt and Western riding disciplines. The program had two riders reach the IHSA National Finals, with 14 other riders reaching National Semifinal or Zone competition.
The swim and dive programs began in 2012, with the men’s program finishing second in the GMAC over each of the last two seasons. The programs totaled 4 NCAA All Americans and 40 All Conference honorees (34 men, 6 women) over the last 8 seasons.
