Police warn of COVID-19 contact alert text message scam: ‘Do NOT click the link!’
Police are warning of a new scam hitting people’s cell phones this week.
The Thomaston Police Department out of Thomaston, Maine, issued the scam alert in a Facebook posting Wednesday.
“If you receive a text message like [the one pictured], DO NOT click the link!” the department stated.
“It is not a message from any official agency. It is however a gateway for bad actors to find their way into your world.”
“The virus is not the only invisible enemy. Be vigilant against all threats!” the department added.
