Protesters gather across street from late Port Clinton teen Harley Dilly’s home

PORT CLINTON, Ohio — In what has been described as “highly disrespectful and inappropriate” by several social media users, protesters gathered Sunday across the street from the home of Port Clinton 14-year-old Harley Dilly, who was found dead in the chimney of a nearby unoccupied vacation home on Tuesday.

Harley was initially reported missing Dec. 20 but was later found dead in a chimney, and police say it is believed that he attempted to enter the unoccupied home through the chimney and got stuck.

Port Clinton Police Chief Rob Hickman added that Harley climbed an antenna in order to enter the chimney, and that police believe there is no foul play involved at this time.

Around 15-20 protesters gathered across from the Dilly home Sunday morning, holding up signs and yelling “Justice For Harley” among other things related to the case.

They said they believe Port Clinton police are “covering up the truth” behind his death, and that all departments involved, including the FBI and BCI, are in on the cover-up. No public evidence or information is currently available that confirms this theory.

The protesters also questioned how Harley could fit in the 9-by-13 inch chimney.

Two people were reportedly arrested at the scene for trespassing on the property where Harley’s body was found.

A source familiar with the situation told News that Port Clinton Police Chief Rob Hickman was there calling in the license plate numbers of protester’s vehicles.

Several social media users spoke out against the protesters.

“This IS absolutely sickening!!!! You people should be arrested by PCPD,” one social media user said of the protesters.

“Hasn’t this family gone through enough??? These protesters are disgusting! This family just lost their son and you people are out there causing them more grief. You should all be ashamed of yourselves,” another Facebook user said.

Authorities arrived on-scene at the home, located near the intersection of Fulton St. and East 5th St. in Port Clinton, Monday evening around 7 p.m. and found Harley’s body early Tuesday morning.

Ottawa County Coroner Dan Cadigan, M.D., said in a statement that the cause of death for Harley was determined as compressive asphyxia.

Harley was a Freshman at Port Clinton High School.

These people are so disrespectful! This family has been through enough! They should be down on their knees thanking God that this didn’t happen to their family! Please leave them alone! You protesters, where is your shame, love and compassion for your fellow human beings? You need to stay at home with your own kids tending to their needs and praying that God wiĺl lead you to be a good parent and thanking him for all he has done for you and your family! You never know what tomorrow will bring or the years ahead of us! As for the Dilly family, I pray that the Lord will comfort you at this time and throughout your grieving process! I pray that these protesters will receive the love of God in their hearts and move forward in life with God! Dilly family, I am so sorry that you have to go through this journey of life at this time! You are in my prayers!

I saw somebody’s comment about “it is none of our business” what happened to Harley. and I was thinking “why would people Have to leave the family alone?” I lost a child to a tragic death. It is really hard for me to believe that people would protest about anything towards this family. These protesters firstly, Have never lost a child I am sure. and secondly, this family is going through the saddest most messed up, horrifying nightmare that any parent could go through. and these protesters want to throw salt in their bleeding hearts? What is interesting is that these proteters are protesting what? a lack of care? support? not loving enough? etc. They are doing something more horrific. and will also need our prayers becuase they do not know any better. But, it is still karmically hurtful. So sad :-(.
