TIFFIN — Tiffin City Schools Superintendent Gary A. Barber is currently on medical leave after he was charged with OVI over the weekend in Marion, according to the district.

TCS said in a statement Thursday that assistant superintendent Robert Boes will work with other administrative officials to manage the district while Barber is on leave.

Barber was pulled over by an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper in Marion around 10:49 PM on Friday, November 29.

The TCS superintendent, who previously worked as Marion City Schools superintendent, refused to participate in a DUI test on-scene.

A demand for a trial by jury was requested by Barber’s attorney, according to court records.

A pre-trial hearing has been set in the case for February 5, 2020 at 9:30 AM at Marion Municipal Court.

Barber was previously found guilty of OVI in 2017.

This is the second time Barber has been on medical leave this year. Previously, he was on leave from April 17 until June 3.
