TIFFIN — The Tiffin City Board of Education held a special meeting Monday evening to discuss, among other things, the situation with Superintendent Gary Barber’s recent OVI charge.
After board member Victor Perez made a motion to allow public comment at the meeting, no other members seconded the motion. The board then went into a two-hour-long executive session to discuss pertinent issues.
The board decided to appoint Assistant Superintendent Robert Boes as superintendent pro tempore while Superintendent Gary Barber remains on medical leave of absence.
In accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, as superintendent pro tempore, Boes shall perform all of the duties and functions of the superintendent and shall serve until the board by majority vote determines the superintendent’s incapacity is removed or until the expiration of the superintendent’s contract or term of office, whichever is sooner.
Barber was previously found guilty of OVI in 2017, shortly after being hired by Tiffin City Schools.
The board also discussed placing a bond issue on the March ballot in order to fund a new school building, but did not yet make a final decision.
