CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ohio — A Bloomville man died Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash.

54-year-old Joseph M. Auck was driving westbound on Dekalb-Shelby Rd. in Vernon Township around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning when he failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the road, according to the Bucyrus post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Auck’s vehicle, a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, traveled off the road, vaulted over a creek and struck a tree, according to OSP.

The impact of the crash caused the SUV to end up on its side. Auck had to be extracted from the vehicle, according to OSP.

Auck was not wearing a safety belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Auck’s dog, who was in the vehicle at the time of the crash, also passed away.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Bucyrus post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Tiro-Auburn Volunteer Fire and EMS, Crawford County Highway Department, Crawford County Coroner, Crawford County Humane Society, and Ronk’s Towing.
