Ackison campaign shares meme depicting Bill Reineke in ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’ movie Staff

26th district Ohio Senate candidate Melissa Ackison (R-Marysville) shared a meme to her campaign Facebook page over the weekend which depicts her opponent, State Rep. Bill Reineke (R-Tiffin), on the cover of the 1989 comedy film “Weekend at Bernie’s.”

“Which one of you did this?,” Ackison asked in the caption of the meme, which features Reineke alongside current 26th district State Senator Dave Burke (R-Marysville) and Ohio Republican Party Chairwoman Jane Timken.

Ackison has consistently been on the attack against Reineke, who was endorsed by term-limited Burke.

“What matters is, what type of Republican do you want to send down to the statehouse? Do you want to send a limp-wrist, weak-knee RINO that’s not going to stand for things we have stood for?,” Ackison said in a campaign speech.

“Or are you going to send a constitutional conservative bulldog down there to represent our children, to represent our businesses, and to represent families like yours?,” Ackison asked.

Ackison has also been heavily critical of the Ohio Republican Party political machine.

“I have to tell you all the things we have worked against us,” Ackison said. “The GOP at the state level… I don’t care if they’re out telling you, ‘hey we want good strong conservative women to run for office,’ no they don’t. If I was a mega-millionaire and I could write million dollar checks to the Ohio GOP, they would love me just fine and wouldn’t care at all what my policies and my personal convictions are.”

Ackison, a Marysville small business owner and longtime conservative activist who ran in the 2018 Republican primary for U.S. Senate and came in third behind Jim Renacci and Mike Gibbons, describes herself on her Facebook profile as a “Liberty loving, gun toting, Bible carrying, 80/90’s hip hop enthusiast & habitual line stepper.”

The 26th district contains Seneca, Sandusky, Morrow, Marion, Crawford, Wyandot, and Union counties.

The primary election will take place in March 2020.

Attempts to reach Bill Reineke’s campaign for comment were unsuccessful.
