TIFFIN — A bedbug sighting at a local elementary school has many parents concerned.
Washington Elementary School officials sent a letter home to parents on Friday regarding the situation. “We recently found a bed bug in your child’s classroom,” the letter starts out.
“The source of bed bugs often cannot be determined, as bed bugs may be found in many places including hotels, planes, and movie theaters. Even though it is unlikely for bed bugs to be spread in schools, Tiffin City Schools will conduct an inspection and, if needed, will treat the area where the bed bug was found,” the letter reads.
According to school officials, any questions regarding the situation should be directed to the principal or school nurse. If you are concerned about potential bed bug bites you are encouraged to contact a physician.
School officials say they have taken all proper steps to ensure the bedbug issue does not spread throughout the school.
