An Alabama mom has been charged with murder in connection with the death of her infant son after he was left in a car overnight, police said.

The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office said Elizabeth Anne Case, 36, is charged with murder after she left her 13-month old baby inside a car Friday overnight and into the afternoon hours on Saturday to go “dumpster diving,” according to WHNT.

Case, who has a history of drug use, awoke around 1:30 p.m. Saturday when her mother arrived, and they found the boy still in the car. Deputies said Case put the child in the shower and her mother called 911, according to AL.com.

The mom & daughter duo then took the boy to Athens-Limestone Hospital where he was pronounced dead, officer Stephen Young told the News Courier.

Before her murder charge, police said, Case had been out on bail for a robbery charge.
