Upper Sandusky man’s son raises thousands on GoFundMe to help with medical expenses after tailgate incident

UPPER SANDUSKY, OH (TiffinOhio.net News) — The son of an Upper Sandusky man has who was “critically injured” Sunday has raised thousands of dollars for his dad’s medical care through a GoFundMe fundraiser.

Andy Shepherd, of Upper Sandusky, was “critically injured” after falling from the top of a van he was standing on in the Muni Lot before the Cleveland Browns home opener Sunday.

According to a tweet from Shepherd’s son, Ashton Shepherd, the man is “epileptic and had a seizure while taking pictures” on top of the van. “He has a fractured skull, a shattered shoulder, and 6 broken ribs,” the man’s son said in his tweet.

“Please people stop assuming he was drunk he had no drinks at that point at all,” Ashton Shepherd said in a tweet.

Within hours of creating the GoFundMe on Monday morning, Ashton had already raised his initial $2,500 goal. His new goal as of early Monday afternoon is $5,000.

As much as I hate to ask others for money and how upset my dad will be we do need any help we can get,” Shepherd said in a tweet.

“Browns fans always have each other’s back get well soon we are all rooting for you!,” one man who donated to the fundraiser said.

After he fell, a crowd can be seen gathering around the man as others went to get help.

WOIO learned from Cleveland EMS crews that the man initially refused further treatment, but was eventually transported to the hospital in an ambulance after first responders advised he go.
