Woman sentenced after admitting to whacking Tiffin man in head with beer bottle
TIFFIN, OH — An Ohio woman admitted in a Seneca County courtroom on Friday that she hit a man over the head with a beer bottle during an argument.
According to court records, Erica K. Showalter, 23, of Byesville, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in Judge Michael Kelbley’s courtroom.
Assistant Seneca County Prosecutor Rebeka Beresh says the incident started after Showalter overheard a phone conversation between her boyfriend and the victim, Joseph Ferstler.
Ferstler apparently told Showalter’s boyfriend that he “deserved better,” which caused Showalter to become enraged and smash a beer bottle over Ferstler’s head.
Court records show Ferstler was taken to Tiffin Mercy Hospital following the incident, suffered blood loss and required stitches.
Showalter was sentenced to two years of community control and ordered to pay a restitution fee of $4,850, according to court records.
