Investigation underway after body found in Fremont, police describe situation as ‘suspicious’
FREMONT, OH (TiffinOhio.net News) — A body was found in an area near the Tindall Bridge in Fremont on Friday under circumstances law enforcement described as “suspicious.”
The cause of death of the man is unknown and his identity has not been confirmed, but the death is being treated as suspicious until a cause of death can be determined, said Chief Dean Bliss of the Fremont Police Department.
Bliss said police are attempting to determine if the death is connected to a missing persons report filed Thursday for a Fremont man.
The identity of the individual found dead has not yet been determined nor were any other descriptors of the body released as of Saturday morning.
“We’re following any and all leads at this point,” Bliss said.
Sandusky County Sheriff Chris Hilton said as the death investigation continues, authorities also are carrying out a separate investigation into a missing person, Eric Edwards Jr., 34.
At 6:18 p.m. Wednesday, before the man was officially reported missing, his wallet and credit cards were found near the intersection of Buchanan and McGormley roads in Fremont.
If authorities confirm the dead person is the missing man, the two investigations will be combined, Hilton said.
“The police department, sheriff’s office and BCI are working hand-in-hand to try to figure out what we can at this point,” Bliss said. “If there’s ever a body found near the river, it’s going to be suspicious, but we’re looking to try to determine what’s going on with that.”
Bliss said the body was taken to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office to determine a cause of death and identify who the person was.
Anyone with information potentially related to the case is asked to call the Fremont Police Department or Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office at 419-332-6464.
