$1.3 million Miami Street project moving forward with grant funding

TIFFIN, OH (TiffinOhio.net News) — The City of Tiffin is getting ready to begin construction on the almost $1.3 million Miami Street Project.

The project is being funded primarily through a federally funded grant with local funding provided by the City of Tiffin and Tiffin University.

The project is a full road reconstruction of Miami Street from Clay Street through the Nelson Street intersection and includes curbs, sidewalk, concrete drive approach, storm sewer and light pole installation, as well as complete demolition and reconstruction of the roadway base and asphalt surface.

During construction, access within the project site will be limited to residents living within the project limits and detour routes are to be posted.

D.L. Smith Concrete & Design LLC from Norwalk, Ohio, was awarded the $1,298,805.55 contract for the project.

The City of Tiffin received a federally funded grant through the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Small Cities Program and Toll Revenue Credit Program which covers 95 percent of the construction cost.

Remaining local funding will be paid for by both the City of Tiffin and Tiffin University.

City Engineer Matt Watson commented: “The Small Cities Program is a very competitive grant and I cannot thank ODOT enough for selecting our project.  There is a significant price tag associated with road reconstruction projects and this grant allows us to completely rebuild one of our higher traffic volume roads for only 5% of the overall project cost.”
