TIFFIN, OH — New businesses have been popping up all over Tiffin lately, but some residents have said the majority of those businesses are “food places,” not retail establishments.

Twitter user Christy Vera tweeted to Mayor Aaron Montz (R-Tiffin) earlier this week, asking: “Can we please get a decent clothing store… kohls ??? We have enough fast food places.”

Montz replied, saying that the “likelihood of seeing a Kohl’s or similar retail store in Tiffin in the near future is slim to none.”

While some residents may be hoping for new retail stores to pop up in the city, we might advise them “not to get their hopes up too high.”

“The rise of online retail, coupled with the fact the Findlay store already gets Tiffin’s business, means essentially zero interest in locating a store here,” Montz continued.

Meanwhile, Gordmans, an “off-price retailer,” will be hosting its grand opening in Tiffin on Thursday, June 27, 2019.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 9 AM, according to the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Services.

Stage Stores launched Gordmans as an off-price retailer in 2017 and has been converting some of its department stores, including Goody’s and Peebles, to Gordmans. In the past year, Stage Stores opened 48 Gordmans stores.

In June, Stage Stores is to open 36 more Gordmans stores, including the 25 Ohio locations. By the end of 2019, there is to be more than 140 Gordmans stores across the country.
