Carey man dead, wife injured after two-vehicle crash

TIFFIN, OH (TiffinOhio.net News) — A Carey man was killed and his wife was injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon in Ottawa County’s Carroll Township.

Rodney L. Traxler, 66, of Carey, was driving a 2007 Toyota Tacoma north on SR 19, and Ralph T. Davis, 63, of Richwood, was driving a 2005 Lexus LS-340 south on SR 19.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, Davis drove left of the center line, causing an oncoming vehicle to swerve in an attempt to avoid a collision, troopers said. Both vehicles went off the east side of the road, where Davis’ vehicle hit the other one head-on.

Traxler died in the accident, and his passenger, Lois J. Traxler, 61, of Carey, was transported by Carroll Township EMS to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center, OSHP states.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Davis was transported to ProMedica Hospital by Life Flight.

Agencies assisting troopers at the scene included the Carroll Township Fire Department, Carroll Township EMS, The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Carroll Township Police Department, Greer’s Towing, Pat and Sons Towing, Mercy Health LifeFlight and Promedica LifeFlight.
