Minor charged after stealing, wrecking vehicle

TIFFIN, OH — According to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, a minor was charged after allegedly stealing a vehicle from a neighbor and wrecking it Thursday morning.

Seneca County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Best said a woman reported a stolen vehicle from a resident on W. CR 10 Thursday morning. Later in the day, a nearby resident reported seeing the car crashed in a field.

Seneca County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a field at CR 57 and TR 96 where they found they vehicle. The vehicle’s owner told police she had a feeling a 16-year-old minor who lived nearby is the person who took the vehicle.

Upon speaking to the 16-year-old minor and his mother, Deputy Best of the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office got the teen to admit to stealing the car and crashing it.

The 16-year-old will be charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, as well as driving without a license and failure to control.
