TIFFIN, OH — It’s that time of year again. People are buying gifts and many other products, having them shipped to their doors, only to find out that the package has been stolen by a low-life (or group of low-lifes).
And Tiffin is not exempt from this.
The Tiffin Police Department announced on Nov. 29 that they had been receiving a higher amount of calls related to porch thefts than usual.
“‘Tis the season’ for porch thieves throughout our country and Tiffin is no stranger to this. We have taken reports of possible stolen packages over the last 3 days,” TPD said.
Tiffin Police recommends you take the following steps to protect your items from theft:
1.) Have a family member or friend present when you know packages are being delivered via package notifications
2.) Mandate Signature on Delivery
3.) Route packages to your work office address
4.) Have delivery company hold packages for a certain amount of time
5.) Security Cameras
Sgt. DeMonte of Tiffin PD says:
“If you experienced a package theft over the last couple of days, please make sure to file a report with the Tiffin Police Dept by either stopping in or calling dispatch (419)447-2323 (sorry but we can’t take reports over Facebook or by instant message).
We need to know the date and what was to be delivered. Our night shift officers made a large break in the case and recovered more property than has been reported yet. Please share to help get the word out, too!”
The situation is under investigation.
